Why isnt my oil furnace heating up my living room and kitchen like it does in the bedrooms?

just bought a home with an old oil furnace in it . unfortuanlty dont have to money to update it but for whatever reason the two bedrooms get nice and warm also there are vents in the basement and the whole basement gets warm but the living room and kitchen dont. I have checked the vents and very little air is getting pushed out. How can I check to see if the ducts are clogged ? what else can i check? Why isnt my oil furnace heating up my living room and kitchen like it does in the bedrooms?

You will need to check and make sure you don't have any ducts down/crushed. You may also want to make sure that they don't have dampers that have closed accidentally. (Look for a small metal handle on the duct pipe, usually on the end farthest from the register. If there is one, the handle should run the same direction as the pipe.)

If your bedroom/basement are too warm, you can close the registers as needed to balance the heat.

And finally, if none of the other options take care of the problem, you can buy a duct booster at Home Depot. It goes in the duct to the room that is too cold, with electric wiring running to the furnace. When your furnace blower comes on, the duct booster fan comes on, forcing more air flow to the room. Very easy to install yourself.
put dampers in the other vents comming out of the plenium to help push the air into the other room you want heated up
I would check all the registers to make sure they are open. You might want to shut off some or all the registers in the basement. If you have flex duct it could be collapsing %26amp; not letting air thru to these rooms. Also if you have round metal duct there could be dampers in it. Check to see if all the dampers are open. Maybe the previous owners let children put things down the registers that is restricting air flow to these rooms.
