If there is a lot of slate in the soil where I live does that mean there could be oil under my land?

Generally speaking, no. Slate is of such high metamorphic grade (meaning it's been through such intense squashing and heating within the earth) that any oil would've evaporated long ago, or else been cooked to the point where it's no longer of value as fuel oil.

On the other hand, I'm not sure what you mean by slate being ';in the soil'; 鈥? are you sure you don't mean shale? (?)
