If a young boy is diagnosed with ALD, and he immediately begins to take Lorenzo's oil and stays on the diet, how long would he live? Also, does anyone know the dosages for the oil? How long do people with ALD typically live on Lorenzo's oil?
Lorenzo's oil is not a cure and its effectiveness is still being debated.
It is expected to work best before any symptoms so diagnosis by genetic testing would allow the best chance of effective treatment. Once symptoms are present LO may slow the progression of ALD.
Lorenzo himself lived to age 30 which is very long for a boy with ALD but he never got any function back. Survival is not typically that long even with LO.
I don't know if anyone can give a specific answer to the question and the range is wide, like 1-25 years.How long do people with ALD typically live on Lorenzo's oil?
As long as they keep taking it.
Anyway, it's not just about taking the oil, the patient should be constantly checked by a doctor.
