I am not sure if I should be taking Cod Liver or Fish oil it told me on a website that I should be taking Cod for Omega 3. but I see Fish oil has that not Cod oil, so am I wrong to be taking it then?Is It Cod Live Oil or Fish Oil I should be taking for Cholestral?
Cod liver oil is rich in vitamins A and D and contains Omega 3s(specifically EPA and DHA) but in smaller amounts than you would want for cholesterol.
Look for bottles that say omega 3 formula, or epa/dha formula or omega 3 fish oil.
I also look for something on the label that says it's been purified to remove any heavy metals.
Lately I've been take Nature Made Omega 3 Fish Oil. I take 2 with breakfast and dinner.
Cholestoff by nature made is also a wonderful product for cholesterol that works well with fish oil.
I've never heard of a doctor actually prescribing these types of things so don't expect that. I go to a cardiologist at Deborah Heart and Lung which is on the best places in the US and my cardiologist told me to take these supplements but didn't have any opinion about how much to take. Pretty much told me to take what according to the directions on the bottle or look up things in nutritional books.
I can't take statin drugs so this is what was recommended by him:
Fish oil 2-3 times a day
Cholestoff 2 times a day
Fiber--this he was specific with. Increase my soluble fiber intake by 15 grams a day. He recommended Metamucil because it contains both soluble and insoluble(which benefits the colon) I use Fibersure and metamucil because I get tired of tasting the fiber drinks and fibersure disappears in any drink.
Best of luck
Oh and really watch your diet! Look up the salmon and salad diet or the mediterranean diet.Is It Cod Live Oil or Fish Oil I should be taking for Cholestral?
They are both fish oil w/Omega 3
see your Dr it can be prescribed you have to take a significant amount daily
