My friend thinks that we can, but I'm telling her that it's not possible, since we really depend on oil. We're having a debate between us and I want to slam her down with really good facts... any ideas? Is it possible for people to live without oil?
Right now? The society is too depended on oil.
If we don't have oil, most people will lose electricity, transportation will collapse, and the world will be kneeling on its knees. Researching for alternative fuels will also be slowed down.Is it possible for people to live without oil?
Oil is a major source of power for the world as it exists now. It is not a renewable resource (at least, not at the rate it is being used), so eventually we will have to live without oil. Moreover, before oil runs out, the constant burning of fossil fuels will radically alter our climate, causing destruction around the world.
Alternative energy sources exist, including solar, wind, geothermal, nuclear, tidal, hydroelectric, and hydrogen. At present, oil is convenient since it produces a great deal of energy, but can also be transported easily (unlike say, geothermal which is very much fixed in one spot). Hydrogen, which can be manufactured using the energy generated by other methods, is also a portable energy source. Some other materials, such as ethanol from corn may also form a renewable and sustainable form of portable power.
I think the question is not if we can live without oil, but how we are going to, and how much damage we will take before we adopt alternatives.
We lived without oil for hundreds of thousands of years. We can do so again.
If you believe we can't exist without oil then you are saying will die out in a few hundred years - since that is about when the oil will run out at the accelerating pace we are using it today. Oil is NOT a renewable resource!!!
Yes it's possible. The only thing that runs on oil is a car, and there are hybrids now that run on other resources. Besides, people don't need cars to live.
All you need to live is food, clothing, and shelter, so I think anybody CAN live without oil, it's just a matter of nobody wanting to.
The US will probably survive but Arabic areas will most likely die off without it. Plus there would be no more plastic, which is made of oil, very essential. Plus the government makes so much off it that I doubt it will be allowed to end.
I would prefer life without reliance on petroleum. Humans have existed for thousands of years without pillaging mother earth as we have in the last 500 years.
yes but first we need to develop alternative fuels
like water power and more advance solar panels
but if oil suddenly just dissapeared some bad sh*t would go down
it's possible. We have lived without it in the past, plus we haven't yet unlocked the true power of electromagnets.
I think the problem with this question is the word ';live';. Of course we can live without oil but the world would be totally different. Modern life may not be possible without oil.
Pfff we could 100% live without oil
Hmm i wonder how we used to do it before we discovered it...?
*ponder, ponder, ponder...*
Not at the moment, that's how food gets into the supermarket, think about it trucks, ships, planes all need fuel, unless someone comes up with something better we would all be hungry.
Humanity would probably survive but if it was just taken away from us that would really screw things up. If we had never had it then it could be quite possible.
Yes but very difficult. We need things like Plastic and Technology.
yes
you know technology isnt everything we need
human can survive without oil
we need oil but not as much as we do with water
yes.
Yeaaa,,,,noo we csnt
